Sculpture Invitational and Mural Program

Sculpture Invitational and Mural Program

Columbus, Indiana

Project Information: The mural program, also in conjunction with the Arts Council, was designed to take large blank space that could be converted to murals.  These sites were throughout the community, many along the trail system, and the program ran for about 12 years. An artist in residence would come to Columbus and work with at risk youth out of our detention facility to help them develop positive self esteem and have a very public and positive place in the community.

The invitational was geared towards sculptors placing existing or new works in Columbus for up to two years.  This very successful project brought both national and local artists and their work to Columbus. Eos the piece to the left was purchased as part of the efforts of two local young professionals and their community wide fundraising efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Served as owners representative, project manager and landscape architect
  • Worked with Columbus Area Arts Council to site and coordinate the placement of over a dozen sculptures as part of the first Columbus Sculpture Invitational.
  • Identified and coordinated mural projects throughout the system with the resident artist and at risk youth.
